One of my goals recently has been to spend less time scrolling and more time doing other things either for enjoyment or self-improvement. I have been really into reading lately, and I read quite a few self-improvement books in April and May. I have never been big on reading simply because I just don’t sit down and take the time to do it. However, there are so many great books out there that I desire to learn the stories and lessons from. If you have never heard of Libby, it is a free app (IOS / Android / Web) that allows you to connect your local library card and check out digital books and audiobooks. Here is what I have read and listened to so far this year!
Atomic Habits by James Clear 5/5

You have probably heard or seen someone rave about Atomic Habits before. I will be the next to say, it truly is a must-read! I enjoyed the storytelling, and it details simple actions you can take in your everyday life to create good habits. It also references online resources that detail a more vivid look at what the author is discussing in the book. I printed out a graph from the resource site that shows how your life can change over the course of a year if you aim to do just 1% better each day and hung it up on my goal board as a daily reminder. This book can change your life if you apply what is being discussed.
10% Happier by Dan Harris 4/5

10% Happier was written by a news anchor named Dan Harris who had a panic attack on live television while giving a news segment. He details his life experiences that led to his break down and his journey to discovering mindfulness meditation. He explains the science behind it, and his personal experiences with it through out his life. I listened to this book via audiobook narrated by the author, and I really enjoyed his stories and his writing style. This is a good book if you want an easy approach to mindfulness meditation.
Untamed by Glennon Doyle 5/5

I absolutely loved this book and finished it in two days! The author had me captivated the entire time. I listened via audiobook with the author’s narration, and I feel like that made me love it even more vs just reading it on my own. Untamed sorts through Glennon’s thoughts, struggles, and instilled beliefs during childhood which then carry into adulthood. She reveals how she decided to take her life into her own hands – going against her former self, and coming out on the other end better than ever.
How to Win Friends and Influence People 5/5

This book is a good self-help read as it is full of a lot of good stories and examples on “how to win friends and influence people” through leadership and seeing matters from someone else’s perspective. I think everyone should read this book at least once! If you don’t feel like reading the entire book, there are many outlines and synopses you can find online.
Big Magic 5/5

I saved my favorite read for last! This book really resonated with me personally, and it has changed the way I view creativity. It really helped pull me out of the creative slump I was in at the time, and I could go on and on about it. I highly recommend you give it a read whether you’re an artist, author, social media influencer, etc.!

I can tell you and I have the same taste in self-help books. I have been wondering if I would like Glennon Doyle because she gets mixed reviews but I think I’ll give her a try.
